Meriadoc Brandybuck, often called Merry, is a hobbit of the Shire in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, first appearing in *The Fellowship of the Ring*. He is a member of the Fellowship of the Ring and plays a crucial role in the War of the Ring.

Born in TA 2982, Merry is known for his intelligence, curiosity, and fondness for maps. He is a close friend of Frodo Baggins and is deeply involved in Frodo's quest to destroy the One Ring.

Along with his cousin Pippin Took, Merry accompanies Frodo on his journey and later distinguishes himself in battle during the War of the Ring.
